Alessio Boni has returned from a second field trip with UNICEF, this time to Indonesia (his 2006 trip was to Malawi and Mozambique).

In Indonesia, Alessio visited two regions.

The first was the Province of Banda Aceh, where the earthquake and subsequent tsunami of December 26, 2004 provoked 160,000 deaths and devastated much of the region. In Aceh, thanks to UNICEF, new earthquake resistant schools have been built - like the SDN Siron school, constructed with donations made by Confindustria and the CGIL, CISL e UIL labor unions.

Next stop was the island of Lombok, where child trafficking and sexual exploitation if minors and young women have reached alarming proportions. Here, UNICEF working closely with local authorities and the Indonesian police coordinates a program of prevention and assists victims.
